91-Day Sanction

91-Day Sanction

by George Veck

FBT review:

Looking for your next indie eBook? **91-Day Sanction by George Veck** is a gripping, brutally honest literary fiction novel set in a record-hot 2024 Gwynedd, where homelessness, poverty and broken systems push lives to the edge. At Morywelon Hostel, scammers, addicts, bystanders and survivors collide under the care of Denise, while upbeat handyman Aled “Sinj” Maxwell keeps hustling against the odds—and a ruthless work coach closes in. Darkly comic, deeply humane and painfully relevant, this page-turning British indie book has won praise for its raw emotion, realism and powerful social commentary. If you enjoy thought-provoking contemporary fiction and want an unforgettable indie read, **91-Day Sanction** deserves a place on your eBook list.

Publisher Description:

Gwynedd, 2024. It’s the hottest June on record, and much of the county has run out of homeless accommodation. Job opportunities are scarce and renting is no longer an option for many.

The savage battle for shelter sees an unlikely group of scammers, addicts, sociopaths and innocent bystanders with nowhere else to go cross paths at Morywelon Hostel. Never will they be the same again…

Hostel manager Denise offers the warmth and love missing from their lives, back for a second spell in the job, missing the connection and chaos such a demanding role provides.

Most lose the will to live in such sorry conditions. Not Aled 'Sinj' Maxwell, grafting through life as an affable door-to-door handyman. His hopes simply can't be dashed. Whether it's magic mushrooms, cider or physical labour, he can supposedly find and sell it all.

But sadistic work coach James Burgess has finally bagged his dream job, right on their doorstep, ready to slash the jobcentre's wage bill at any cost...

Brutally honest and disarmingly comic, George Veck's compelling, page-turning anthology is a poignant dive into the soul of a tight-knit area and a critical look at the political, emotional, and financial battles facing those of all backgrounds as opportunities dry up.

Goodreads reviews

***** Anyone who has read the author's books will know, 100%, that the writing style, rawness, emotion and ‘realness’ is unique, I would say truly unique, you would be hard-pressed to find someone who writes with such passion on social issues.

***** Besides being a book that is impossible to put down, the subject is simply touching. This should be a must-read. It is strong, honest and shakes us to reality. We live our lives and we don't even stop to think about what happens to those who are left helpless and without any kind of help. I shed my first tear right at the preface, so you can see how much this book touched me.

***** This book shows what is happening at the moment in the UK, what people dealing with on a daily basis, and the system that is there but not there to help.

**** Just think how much more empathic the world would be if everybody read this inciteful book.

***** This is one of those books that should be read to start conversations that need to be had!

***** 91-Day Sanction is another great book by George Veck. I was saddened, happy, laughing, disgusted, disappointed and disturbed by what I was reading, I am amazed that the people didn’t actually get the help they desperately needed and deserved.
